February 17, 2012: Brooklyn Teacher's Aide Charged with Producing Child Porn

Posted By Corey Sullivan || 17-Feb-2012

A Brooklyn elementary school teacher’s aide was out on bail after being arrested in January, on charges of possessing child pornography. The teacher’s aide, Taleek Brooks, 40, was then arrested again after federal agent’s uncovered videos from his computer of him engaging in sexual acts with students. Officials say that the videos appear to have been taken inside the school, P.S. 243, where Brooks has worked since 1995. This arrest yielded a more serious charge, producing child pornography.

Mr. Brooks was suspended without pay by the Education Department after his mid-January arrest and is now being held without bail for his second arrest.

The criminal complaint cites two victims and the F.B.I. is encouraging parents to come forward if they have any more information. The New York Times reported, that in a letter, the school’s chancellor said the F.B.I. “will not be interviewing any children without first reaching out to parents directly,” and “The F.B.I. has also informed us that if they have reason to suspect one of your children may have been victimized by this individual, they will reach out to you directly.” Parents were shocked by the allegations against Brooks, who some described as friendly and familiar presence at the school.
