A leader of the violent Folk Nation gang was captured Wednesday morning
hiding in his girlfriend's Brooklyn apartment, authorities said. The
gang leader, Devon Rodney, is being charged in a racketeering indictment
for ordering gang members to kill rivals and conspiring to rob jewelry
stores in Manhattan, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Allegedly,
a 10-year-old girl was shot in the neck by a Folk Nation gang member carrying
out Rodney's order to kill a rival at a block party in 2008.
According to federal prosecutors, the Folk Nation gang has operated from
the Ebbets Field Houses in Flatbush for years and is responsible for numerous
shootings. Assistant U.S. Attorneys said that Rodney "recently made
concerted efforts to determine if any fellow gang members were cooperating
with the FBI and the NYPD.”. They went on to say that if found out,
any gang member cooperating risks their lives because "In the view
of the gang, 'snitching' is a capital offense,” Seven members
of the Folk Nation gang are being charged.
