Brooklyn rapper charged with three murders, including one he boasted about on Twitter

Federal prosecutors have charged Ronald Herron with three brutal murders including one that the wannabe rapper boasted about on his twitter account. A Brooklyn Federal court grand jury indicted Herron on Monday for the murders which authorities say are connected to his drug enterprise in the Gowanus Houses. Herron, who was a known gang leader, could face the death penalty if convicted.

One of the charges Herron faces is for the June 16, 2001 murder of Fredrick Brooks, a charge he previously beat in state Supreme Court when two witnesses refused to testify against him. Herron later bragged on his Twitter account that he “beat a body” referring to Brooks, authorities say. As reported by the Daily News, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said “his tweets were premature”. Herron is also being charged with the murders of Richard Russo in 2008 and Victor Zapata in 2009; both killings took place at the Gowanus Houses, where authorities have linked his gang activity.

The NYPD detectives who were on the case worked closely with federal authorities to bring this indictment after Herron beat the first charge by allegedly threatening and intimidating key witnesses. According to authorities, Herron and his drug gang are allegedly affiliated with the "Murderous Mad Dog" branch of the Bloods street gang and he has posted YouTube videos in the past claiming to be the leader of a “murder team”. Herron has been jailed on federal drug charges since 2010.
